Giant Mushrooms!

I have no idea what kind of mushrooms these are, but they are really big!

Okay, after I wrote that, I googled giant white mushroom maryland and came up with a couple of possibilities: Clitocybe gibba or Clitocybe maxima. The first one seems correct but not big enough; the big one isn’t supposed to be found this far east. But this is my best guess.

My husband took the first photo. All photos were taken with his brand-new Nikon Coolpix S3500, which we got for him to take to Greece next week.

A Young Chipmunk

I love chipmunks, but they are usually too shy and too nimble for me to catch them on camera. This little one obliged me by freezing in position for quite a long time as I snapped his picture. I think he was too young and inexperienced to realize he should flee! Unfortunately, I was still too far to get a really clear photo.

Raindrops on a leaf

These mushrooms look like ghostly flowers rising out of the leaf litter. I don’t know what they are called. Update JULY 2016: They are not mushrooms at all, but a herbaceous perennial called Monotropa Uniflora, aka Indian pipe, ghost plant, or corpse plant.

A Fungus Among Us

On an early morning walk in the park today, we saw some beautiful and interesting mushrooms. Unfortunately I have no idea of their names.

This flowery mushroom was about 8-10 inches across!

This toadstool was broken and damaged, but still lovely.

Although small, this one is still pretty.
